unit of fire
mil., logist. The unit of fire is an accounting unit independent from the considered combat day of supply; it represents the theoretical daily supply rate for all the elements of a unit. It is the produce of the total amount of weapons for each type of weapon by the corresponding theoretical daily supply rate. For the unit of fire to remain relevant, it is indispensable for it to be complemented by the designation of the considered unit for instance: unit of fire for a mechanized infantry battalion. To facilitate the conduct of resupply operations, it is also possible to call “unit of fire” a category of specific ammunition. (FRA)
