temporary casualties
mil., logist.
Temporary or reversible losses of personnel as a result of battle injuries and illnesses. Such casualties are able to return to active duty on recovery. A distinction is made between temporary battle casualties caused by wounds, concussion, disease, etc. sustained in action on the one hand, and casualties occurring in a non-combat environment on the other. Cases of combat trauma and disease that do not result in unfitness for duty are not included in temporary casualties. Sick and wounded who have lost combat effectiveness for no less than twenty-four hours and have reported to a first-aid post or treatment centre are usually recorded as temporary casualties.
