POL support Domain of the logistic support operational function which encompasses all the actions answering the needs of the forces in POL products, in the requested volumes and specifications, at all times and in all places. Functional components: These actions include the following functional components: identification of the resource, procurement, quality control, stockpiling, transportation and delivery of the fuel and other POL products as well as the maintenance of the specific POL equipment. The POL support also includes all the accounting and administrative operations required by its execution.
POL support area One of the components of the joint theatre logistic base of a logistics support group, in charge of the POL support ensuring the POL endurance of the level in consideration. It is comprised of: 1. a command and general support sector; 2. a transportation sector; 3. a convoy sector; 4. a massive storage sector; 5. a "lubricants and miscellaneous" storage sector; 6. a petroleum maintenance sector.
POL support concept The POL concept during operations is organized around the following principles: 1. the product resources have to be looked for as close as possible to their place of use, and if possible the delivery by the supplier to the joint theater logistic base should be favored; 2. ensure the continuation of the POL support,in time and space from the acquisition of the products to their delivery to the units, relying on a continuous and consistent functional chain.
POL unit The POL unit is the volume of petroleum, oils, and lubricants necessary for: 1. loaded tracked or wheeled vehicles to move 100 km on a dry and flat road at an average speed; 2. aircraft to fly 3 hours at a medium operational altitude and cruising speed; 3. other fixed or mobile equipment (engineer vehicles, quartermaster equipment, power units, boats, food preparation equipment. ) to operate in standard conditions for a 3, 6, 9, or 12 hour period.
