A state of aircraft readiness wherein combat-equipped aircraft are airborne and ready for immediate action.

In an airborne operation, a phase beginning with delivery by air of the assault echelon of the force into the objective area and extending through attack of assault objectives and consolidation of the initial airhead. Also called assault phase.

airborne assault vehicle
