air refuelling initial point	The geographical point at which the receiver aircraft enters the refuelling track, initiates radio contact with the tanker and begins a manoeuvre to rendezvous
air report	A report from an aircraft in flight prepared in conformity with requirements for position and operational and/or meteorological reporting
air route	The uncontrolled airspace within the boundaries or along the tracks specified on an aeronautical chart, or the controlled airspace within the boundaries or along the tracks specified in the Designated Airspace Handbook
air route surveillance radar	An air route traffic control center (ARTCC) radar used primarily to detect and display an aircraft’s position while en route between terminal areas. The ARSR enables controllers to provide radar ATC service when aircraft are within the ARSR coverage. In some instances, ARSR may enable an ARTCC to provide terminal radar services similar to but usually more limited than those provided by a radar approach control.
air route traffic control center	A facility established to provide ATC service to aircraft operating on IFR flight plans (FP) within controlled airspace and principally during the en route phase of flight. When equipment capabilities and controller workload permit, certain advisory/assistance services may be provided to VFR aircraft.
air show	An aerial display or demonstration before an assembly of persons by one or more aircraft
air sovereignty test	A flight that is designed to test the detection, identification and reporting functions of the air defence forces

air traffic control instruction	A directive issued by an ATC unit for ATC purposes
air traffic control operations support specialist	An employee assigned to perform non-control functions in an ATC unit
air traffic control service	A service provided for the purposes of (a) preventing collisions between (i) aircraft; (ii) aircraft and obstacles; and (iii) aircraft and vehicles on the manoeuvring area; and (b) expediting and maintaining an orderly flow of air traffic
air traffic control specialist	A person holding a valid licence to control air traffic
air traffic control unit	As the circumstances require, this may be (a) an area control centre (ACC) established to provide ATC service to aircraft; or (b) an airport control tower unit established to provide ATC service to airport traffic
air traffic controller	A person holding a valid licence to control air traffic
air traffic flow management	A service established with the objective of contributing to a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic by ensuring that ATC capacity is utilized to the maximum extent possible and that the traffic volume is compatible with the capacities declared by the appropriate ATS authority
