advisory control A mode of control in which the controlling agency has communications but no radar capability
aerobatic manoeuvre A manoeuvre where a change in the attitude of an aircraft results in a bank angle greater than 60°, an abnormal attitude or an abnormal acceleration not incidental to normal flying
aerobatic manoeuvre A manoeuvre intentionally performed by an aircraft involving an abrupt change in altitude, an abnormal attitude or an abnormal variation in speed or flight path
aerodrome Any area of land, water (including the frozen surface thereof) or other supporting surface used, designed, prepared, equipped or set apart for use, either in whole or in part, for the arrival, departure, movement or servicing of aircraft. This includes any buildings, installations and equipment situated thereon or associated therewith. • abbreviations: A/D or AD
aerodrome advisory service The provision, by an FSS, of information pertinent to the arrival and departure phases of flight and for transit through a mandatory frequency (MF) area
aerodrome beacon A beacon used to indicate the location of an aerodrome from the air. Beacons may consist of either a rotating light source or a strobe light.
aerodrome control service Air traffic control service for aerodrome traffic
aerodrome controller An officer who has successfully completed a formal aerodrome controller course and has been rated as competent to control aerodrome and ground traffic in accordance with Canadian Forces regulations
aerodrome elevation The elevation of the highest point of the landing area
aerodrome geometric centre The centre of the runway complex that locates the aerodrome for charting purposes, determined by calculating the mean of the latitudes of the northernmost runway threshold and the southernmost runway threshold, and the mean of the longitudes of the easternmost runway threshold and the westernmost runway threshold
aerodrome geometric centre coordinates The latitude and longitude, to the nearest second, of the aerodrome geometric centre
aerodrome operator The person in charge of an aerodrome, including an employee, agent or other authorized representative of that person
aerodrome reference point A designated geographical location of an aerodrome given to the nearest second of latitude and longitude
aerodrome traffic All traffic on the manoeuvring area of an aerodrome and all aircraft flying in, entering or leaving an aerodrome traffic circuit
aerodrome traffic circuit The specified path to be flown by aircraft operating in the vicinity of an aerodrome
aerodrome traffic frequency A very high frequency (VHF) designated to ensure that all radio-equipped aircraft operating on the ground or within the specified ATF area are listening on a common frequency and following a common reporting procedure
aeronautical beacon An aeronautical light arranged, either through optical design or mechanical motion, to be visible to all azimuths, either continuously or consecutively, to designate a particular point on the surface of the earth
aeronautical chart A representation of a portion of the earth, its culture and relief, specifically designated to meet the requirements of air navigation
aeronautical fixed telecommunications network The integrated worldwide system of aeronautical fixed circuits provided, as part of the aeronautical fixed service, for the exchange of messages between the aeronautical fixed stations within the network
aeronautical ground light Any light, other than a light displayed on an aircraft, specially provided as an aid to air navigation
