step
Within a tactical phase, maneuver phase after where a partial result will be reached, and after which complementary actions are necessary, such as action coordination, fire delivery, or combat support.
step up procedure
Immediate transfer of responsibility, performed at a predetermined time, after a notice. It can be: 1. the link or junction step up performed between signal centers; 2. the signals step up, between exploitation centers; 3. the logistic support group step-up; 4. the command step up, between CPs or command elements. The command step up always implies a signals step up for the attached exploitation centers. These two step ups are usually performed at the same time. The signals step up, however, can be done during the relocation of the formation commander from the previous CP to the new one.
