Level of maintenance 4 pertains to the deepest maintenance operations, and it can imply the complete reassembly or reconditioning of items of equipment. These are complex operations. They can be programmed.

levels of maintenance 1 and 2
Levels of maintenance 1 and 2 are characterized by very short maintenance operations. These operations pertain to the complete item of equipment or to the on-line replaceable unit. They are easy and short to perform, and they do not require maintenance tools other than those fielded within the unit owning the items of equipment. One only speaks about levels 1 and 2 maintenance operations or levels 1 and 2 technical interventions.
