force commander
Authority appointed to ensure the command of a joint and possibly combined force on the theater of operations. The Force commander has a Joint Force HQ deployed on the theater of operations at his disposal. He normally assumes the operational control of the forces placed at his disposal. For a national operation, the Force commander is called the Theater commander. He is appointed by the Chief defense to whom he is subordinated.
