quantisation Process by which the range of a variable is divided into a finite number of distinct subranges, not necessarily equal, each of which is represented by an assigned value named the quantized value

resolution The least interval between two adjacent discrete details which can be distinguished one from the other. In the case of an instrument with digital output, the term "resolution" is often understood as the smallest change in the output
resonance frequency The frequency of a sinusoidal input signal which coincides with the inherent frequency of the system thus producing an extra large output
response time The length of time required for the output of a transducer to rise to a specified percentage of its final value as a result of a step change of measurand
rise time For a step response, the time interval between the instant when the output signal, starting from zero, reaches a small specified percentage (for instance 10%) of the final steady-state value, and the instant when it reaches for the same time a specified large percentage (for instance 90%) of the same steady state value
