The length of time between arriving at a point and being ready to depart from that point. It is used in this sense for the loading, unloading, refuelling and re-arming, where appropriate, of vehicles, aircraft and ships. Related term: turnaround cycle.
turnaround cycle
A term used to define a mission carried out by vehicles and comprising the following: 1. loading time at departure point; 2. time to and from destination, 3. unloading and loading time at destination; 4. unloading time at returning point, 5. planned maintenance time, and where applicable, time awaiting facilities.
turning movement
A variation of the envelopment in which the attacking force passes around or over the enemy's principal defensive positions to secure objectives deep in the enemy's rear to force the enemy to abandon his position or divert major forces to meet the threat. Related term: envelopment.
