coercion action or force action Ground forces' operating mode or course of action which requires their ability to conceive and conduct operations in order to win the day through the destruction of enemy forces. It implies obtaining a local operational superiority in terms of conventional military assets.
coercion operation Operation whose goal is to coerce through the use of force an enemy clearly designated. The political goal set by the country, coalition, or international community can only be reached by a military victory. This kind of operation can be prosecuted as self defense (United Nations Charter article 51) or to impose the will of the international community in accordance with chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
