dispersal area
Area which is reached by a unit, located close to its peacetime positions, in order to reduce its vulnerability towards enemy action, and to enhance its freedom of action. It is also the place where the unit continues its operational preparation.
dispersed site
A site selected to reduce concentration and vulnerability by its separation from other military targets or a recognized threat area.
dispersion
The spreading or separating of troops, materiel, establishments, or activities which are usually concentrated in limited areas to reduce vulnerability. 2. In airdrop operations, the scatter of personnel and/or cargo on the drop zone. 3. In naval control of shipping, the reberthing of a ship in the periphery of the port area or in the vicinity of the port for its own protection in order to minimize the risk of damage from attack.

A scattered pattern of hits around the mean point of impact of bombs and projectiles dropped or fired under identical conditions. 2. In anti-aircraft gunnery, the scattering of shots in range and deflection about the mean point of explosion. 3. In chemical and biological warfare, the dissemination of agents in liquid, vapour or aerosol form.

dispersion pattern
The distribution of a series of rounds fired from one weapon or a group of weapons under conditions as nearly identical as possible; the points of burst or impact being dispersed about a point called the mean point of impact.
