Certainly NOT a harlot.
And not even necessarily female.
Very often used for even inanimate objects.
Example from WSJ:
"Until the recent attack was launched, Yukos had been everybody's darling and a prime Russian blue chip".

Почему "Certainly NOT"? Может быть и derogatory meaning у этого слова - в том числе и женщина легкого поведения - в зависимости от контекста.

Well , Leila, just FYI:

"everybody's darling" is an old-fashioned expression, has been out of use with regard to HUMANS since, I would say, the 1930s, and NEVER had the derogatory meaning of a promiscuous female.
