indicates - просто стилистически неоправданно в сочетании "бурение" (процесс) и "УВ" (вещество).

Поправьте если я не прав, но "структура" это по русски, а если formation. 10-4 бы сюда.

Структура это структура (structure), а formation это пласт. Это разные вещи.

Структура это калька с geological structure - геологическая структура (месторождения, залежи). Что тут не ясно?

Formation - это стратиграфическое понятие (формация, свита, пачка, пласт, слой - в разных контекстах), структура -- тектоническое.
Структура определяет форму залегания formation.
